A Day at Broadmoor
Today we went for a walk at the Broodmoor Audobon Sanctuary. We were among the first on the trails with only 3 other cars in the parking lot. It was a very good day for sightings.
Along the Glacial Hill Trail, the woods were full of ghostly white Indian Pipes.

At the mill pond dam we saw a black mink:
[thank you BBC for the photo]The mink was surprisingly brave, peering at us from the brush at the bottom of the mill pond dam and then running across the path in front of us.
Further down the path, we were startled to see a Great Blue Heron wining its way through the trees.
May was very impressed with the size of its wings. We watched the heron land and make a snack out of the fish it had caught. The mink made another appearance at the edge of the shore, hoping the heron would drop its catch.
After all these rare sightings, the pond full turtles and frogs seems positively prosaic, but May enjoyed it all.

Wow- we've been there with the boys, but we didn't have nearly as much critter luck. What a great day!
Is this Chris Ferry who went to Watertown HS in CT, class of 92?
That's me...
