Two years taller....

We just got back from May's official Four Year Checkup and all was well. She is healthy and fine, and weighing in at 49 lbs. and 45 inches. That's the size of the average 6 year old, so the doctor said she's "two years taller than most."

February vacation has been treating us well. We went to the MFA yesterday with friends from school and got to see four-faced statues, do a scavenger hunt for fantastical beasts, see "Watson and the Shark," make some all-white animal art, and do other fun things. We also got to see "The Secrets of Tomb 10A," which is an interesting collection of Egyptian artifacts dating to 2000 BC.

Last week, May went ice skating with some friends at the Frog Pond and did very well. She only fell three times and wants badly to go again. Mommy isn't so sure, since it's been 20 years since I last skated.

Pitchers and catchers reported to Fort Meyers yesterday, so spring is on its way. Think warm thoughts.

Happy Valentine's Day

May says Happy Valentine's Day to all of you! She's going to spend the day with her Daddy doing something fun (like a museum) while Mommy is going to get some work done. Then, tonight, the gracious and lovely Auntie Nikki is going to take care of her while we go out to dinner.

Below, you'll see the two things I made this weekend. A heart quilt (pictured sideways, for some reason) and an S-hook. The quilt I made at home, but the hook I made at a blacksmithing class at Prospect Hill Forge along with my friends Nikki and Emily. At one point, I literally ripped hot steel into two pieces with my bare hands. Go ahead and keep your romcoms and martinis -- that is what I call a girl's night out.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend!

Sad news

This afternoon, we will be taking Atticus to the vet for the final time. He's been very ill for a while and we decided with the vet yesterday that it was time.

We're all sad and sorry to see such a handsome and loving cat go.
