May's latest tricks

Let's see ... it's been a while since i posted anything. Since we're lacking in a camera to document it, you'll have to just rely on my poor narration of May's latest accomplishments.

She can tell you what noises made by a cow, chicken, rooster, monkey, duck, kitty, doggie, sheep, or pig. Her pig is a little impressionistic still, however. Also, trucks and construction equipment all go "vroom" and "ay panes" go "swoosh".

She can climb up the stairs and down the slide for half an hour without stop. She likes the swings (which she calls "whee!") and riding on anything that has wheels.

When reading her books, she can identify stars, moon, sun, most animals, girls, hats (she loves hats), rainbows, trains, trucks (loves trucks), flowers, shoes, shirts, cups, cars, bags, bikes (loves bikes), boys, balls, babies, buses, butterflies, bunnies, and bees. Despite the prevalence of B words in her vocabulary, she says certain things with a "G" sound instead. Gall instead of ball. Gook instead of book. But she says "bee" "bye-bye" and "boppy" just fine.

Her favorite book right now is The Big Usborne Book of Things to Spot.

This week, she's very into possessives. Everything is mommy's book, daddy's chair, and may-may's slide. And heaven forbid that the wrong person read the wrong book, sit in the wrong chair, or another kid try and get on her slide.

All hats are Red Sox hats. (Just 1.5 games up on the Yanks, with only a few more games! Go Sox!)

When passing a bald man on the bike path recently, she said "Pop pop!" (her name for Skip) and patted her head.

We regularly walk several miles a day -- I'm guessing from all the extra back-and-forthing that she does that she walks at least four and often five or six miles a day. She eats any and everything -- sweet potatoes, scrambled eggs, raw peppers, cooked onions, salsa straight from the jar, chicken satay. She prefers to feed herself. I prefer to feed her myself because I wash the floors. She drinks lots of milk, water, and cold chamomile tea at night.

Despite her best and repeated efforts, she can not yet jump. She crouches down really low, and stands up to her tip toes really fast, however. It's a matter of time, I suspect.

She's napping from noon or 12:30 to 2 or 3. She goes to bed (in theory) at 7 and wakes up when the alarm goes off at 6, though sometimes she sleeps until 7.

That's all I can think of right now.
