May and V.

May and her friend V decided they would use a slinky to make a moving roadblock the other day.

Five! Five! Five! Five! Five!

May turned five last week and she's very excited about it.

On her birthday, we went and got her very own Somerville Library Card, an important milestone in any child's life. We also go her hair trimmed -- her first hair cut ever. Just a few inches off the ragged ends of her long long locks.

On Saturday we had a tiny party ... if you count 13 people as tiny! Two cakes -- peppermint angel food cake with vanilla whipped cream and a chocolate truffle torte. Auntie Nikki came for dinner afterwards, having just flown back from Florida.

On Sunday, May got a special day at the MOS with Daddy while Mommy got her work done just under the deadline.

New Scarf from Grand-Godmother Donna

Grand-Godmother Donna (May's godmother's mother) generously knit this beautiful scarf and hat set for May just in time for the wicked cold! Thank you!

Winter Photos

May and Mommy made a shadow lantern today. There's a picture of a wintry tree on one side and a wolf howling at a moon on the other.

We also went to the park today.

May would like to tell you some things

Hey everyone. May has been thinking about things she might want for Christmas and would like to tell you that she particularly wants these things:

Warm soft long-sleeved dresses, in very bright colors or in brown with sparkles (I dunno why brown with sparkles, but she's really dedicated to that particular description). She wears a 6x/7 in most stores and a 120 cm in European sizes.

She really really wants warm, brightly colored tights and leggings. Really warm ones, since she goes outside a lot. Wool if you can find them.

Books about wolverines.

Any of the Magic Tree House Research Guides (these are different than Magic Tree House Stories) EXCEPT "Sharks and Dolphins" or "Twisters and Other Terrible Storms". The research guides are nonfiction -- she already has the fictional stories. (May points out that the guides have notebooks and pencils on the spine, if you need an easy way to figure it out.)

Other things that she's said she's interested in:

  • A wooden pulley or block and tackle set (full size or doll size, I've seen both)
  • Qwirkle
  • The Celestial Stars Silk Bower at Magic Cabin if you're feeling exceptionally generous.
  • Stockmar Watercolor Paints (Stockmar are better than the usual Crayola but don't have lead or heavy metals like the other high end watercolors.)
  • Beeswax candle making kit

She also wants you to know she fell and got a fat lip today.
