My went back to preschool this week. She's a Kestral now (mornings), as opposed to a Cricket (afternoon) last year. Her class make-up is still mostly boys -- 8 boys and 4 girls, instead of just 2 girls -- and more her own age. Last year she was the youngest by far and most of the others were 5 years old. Now there are more 3 and 4 years olds, which is good and bad. (Good because they are her own age. Bad because she's a little precocious and enjoys talking with older kids.)
The school has moved to a new, more kid-friendly space, where the children will be in charge of a flock of 30 chickens and they will also have to count the sheep every morning to make sure that no sheep rustlers from Lexington have stolen any sheep in the night. (Darned sheep rustlers!) They will actually get to go into the sheep pen to do that!
This weekend we'll be going to the Fairies in the Garden Party at the Somerville Growing Center. Auntie Nikki (a Ferry godmother, herself) will be coming along with us and was kind enough to make sure May has wings to wear to the party. I'm in the middle of making the dress for the party and will probably have to stay up late Friday night to finish everything.
We went to Crane Beach on Labor Day with the Hobermans, including a stop at Russel orchard for apples, cider, doughnuts, and rhubarb wine (!? We'll let you know how it tastes!) and then lunch at Woodman's! In all, the perfect day.
I'll post photos on Sunday of the fairy party.
