Happy first day of spring!
Hello all. It's been a while, I know, but we've been so busy here! Let's see....
First, today May went to her eye doctor and got sad news. Her eye has improved so much that she will only be going back once a year instead of once every six months!
This morning we went for a walk in the Arnold Arboretum to look at the trees in bloom there. We saw red and yellow witch hazel with their spidery flowers, sleek silvery catkins on pussy willows, the tiny redbuds on the silver maples, and a whole field turned white with thousands of shy snowdrops.
Two weeks ago, May got to watch a pair of baby kids being born at school. Then last weekend we went to the sap to syrup pancake breakfast and learned how maple syrup is made. We also learned that we're really glad we didn't have to make maple syrup in the Native American way. We got to taste mapleade straight from the evaporator and sap straight from the tree, and we got to eat giant piles of fluffy pancakes, sausage made from the piglets Hazel had last spring, and potatoes that they grew right there at Drumlin Farm.
We've been reading "Little House in the Big Woods" and "Swallows and Amazons", along with the usual assortment of shorter books. We just bought her a set of rain gear in the brightest color yellow possible, so they never lose track of her at school.
Two of her friends -- Calder and Zoen -- just got little sisters in the last week and I've been making dolls and quilts like crazy. We haven't met the little sisters yet, if only because we're all recovering from colds, but we're very excited to.
That's about it from here. Photos soon.
